Fall Semester, 2012

The summer has passed, and the children are back in school.  We've had a great summer, including a leadership program with some students we've developed a relationship with.

Homework Night will restart at Zion Tabernacle on October 1st.

Oh, and in additional exciting news, we are expecting a 2nd location on another night this semester!

If your church or group wants to influence your neighborhood, then call Paul Pettefer at 794-9891 and find out how simple it is to get engaged.  It doesn't take money or expertise, but time and a small group of volunteers.

It's how you and your friends can change a city.

Dash for Trash - JFK 5th Grade class Serves the City!

Ms. Lollion Elmer, a member of the Lake Charles Housing Authority Board, had a dream - of the community engaging in the developments of the LCHA and cleaning them up, starting come culture shift.  Mr. Willie King saw a connection between getting that dream into reality, and training a 5th Grade classroom he is mentoring about work, teamwork, and how to change a city.

So, on March 14 we had a Pizza Party at the Meadow Park Community Center and announced that in two weeks we would be returning to have a Dash For Trash, from 4:30-5:30.

Clean Up, Clean Up!

Willie and Ms. Lollion talk about what we did here - and what we are going to keep doing!

Ms. Davis shares the changes from our last time on Anita Dr. until this week!

Voices of Children Banquet was, literally, Awesome!

We use the phrase, "You should have been there" often.  What a special evening.  The children of our community put on this incredible evening.  Elementary children, mostly, served the three courses to the 300 or so in attendance.  Children did all of the presenting, singing, performing and speaking for the evening.

The children, with a little leadership and some loving kindness from caring adults showing them what could be, were incredible!  Let their voices ring, then the city will be different.

There were so many incredible moments - so we captured them on video so you could be there too.
